Deosai is a vast, treeless plateau at an average height of over 4,000 m — one of the highest plateaus in the world. Often called the “Land of Giants”, it is a landscape of rolling grass, meandering streams, wildflowers in summer and, beyond, the white Himalaya and Karakoram.

How to get there

From Skardu

The usual route climbs through Satpara (Sadpara) village and lake to the park entrance at Bara Pani, then continues to Sheosar Lake. Expect around 2–3 hours each way by jeep, so Deosai is a full day trip. Regular cars cannot manage the road; use a 4×4 or local jeep.

From Astore

In summer a jeep road climbs from Chilim over the plateau to Skardu — a spectacular route. See our Astore guide.

What to see

Altitude and weather

At over 4,000 m, you may feel breathless or have a headache. Move slowly, drink water and avoid heavy meals. Weather changes quickly: bring windproof layers, gloves and a hat, even in July. Read our altitude guide for more.
