The Neelum Valley is a long valley rather than a single destination. It follows the Neelum River from Muzaffarabad up towards the Line of Control, and each stop has its own character. Here are the highlights in order of travel.
In this guide
Places in order
| Place | What it offers | Approx. from Muzaffarabad |
|---|---|---|
| Muzaffarabad | Capital of Azad Kashmir; river views, forts, Pir Chinasi nearby | Start |
| Kundal Shahi | Waterfalls and a green side valley | About 2 hours |
| Athmuqam | Market town, base for side valleys such as Jagran and Kutton | About 3 hours |
| Keran | Riverside town facing the Line of Control | About 4 hours |
| Sharda | Broad river bend and ruins of an ancient centre of learning | About 5–6 hours |
| Kel | End of the road; gateway to Arang Kel | About 7–8 hours |
| Taobat | Last village in the valley, with meadows nearby | Longer; rough road |
Times are approximate; narrow roads and checkpoints slow travel.
